Hunger Games Star Will Play “Socially Inept” Gamer in New Hulu Show

Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson will play a “socially inept” gamer in the pilot for a Hulu comedy called Future Man, according to a report today from The Hollywood Reporter.

Future Man was created by Superbad and Pineapple Express writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. According to THR, the story focuses on a character, Josh Futterman, played by Hutcherson, who is a “janitor by day, world-ranked gamer by night.”

He must stop the extinction of humankind “after mysterious visitors from the future declare him to be the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion.”

The character Futterman lives at home with his parents and is the janitor for a sexual disease research facility. More from THR‘s description of the show follows:

“Because of a sickly adolescence, Josh is socially inept, has low self-esteem, and can’t approach women. The only thing he excels at is Cybergeddon, a video game set in a dystopian future where his character, Future Man, has the top ranking in the world. When Josh beats the final level, he’s visited by characters from the game who claim it is a training manual and he’s been selected to travel back in time and help them save the world. Is he ready? Absolutely not.”

The pilot is reportedly being produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Ariel Shaffir (The Night Before, Sausage Party) attached to write the script. Roger and Goldberg will direct the pilot.

In other news about Hulu’s original programming, the first episode in JFK show 11.22.63 based on the Stephen King novel is now available to stream for free on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
