Valve has released an updated version of classic Counter-Strike map de_nuke. The redesigned map was added to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as part of the Operation Wildfire event. Take a look at screenshots of the new Nuke below.
“Nuke is one of Counter-Strike’s most iconic and enduring maps. First released in November 1999, the map has undergone numerous aesthetic and functional changes over the years, yet always retained its elegant simplicity. We’re excited to announce the latest evolution of Nuke in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive,” it said on the official Counter-Strike website.
The main goals of the redesign were to create more tactical options for the Terrorist side. Traditionally, it has been considered that Counter-Terrorists had an advantage on the map. Along with gameplay tweaks, the visual aesthetic has also been updated to be “high-quality” and “more readable.”
Valve continued: “We set out to adjust rotation times between the stacked bombsites, Counter-Terrorist strategic control of the rafters, and added a new outdoor attack route.”
Nuke has also been added to Competitive Matchmaking playlists and “other game modes as part of the Operation Wildfire map group.” More specific changes to the map, including changes to Bombsite A and B, vents outside areas, and more, can be found here.
Operation Wildfire also features unlimited free access to seven community maps. Those that purchase a pass for the event will get an Operation Journal that tracks states in competitive matches and an Operation Wildfire Coin. This coin is displayable “wherever your avatar is shown and upgradable by completing campaign Challenge Missions.”
Operation Wildfire also features the following campaigns:
- The Gemini Campaign: Grab a friend and fight your way through the cooperative Gemini Campaign! Gemini Campaign missions each feature a friends leaderboard and can be replayed as often as you like. Work as a team and go for a high score!
- The Wildfire Campaign: Looking for a mixture of Casual, Arms Race, Deathmatch, and Demolition missions? The Wildfire Campaign features 30 missions that will grant you XP as you work toward upgrading your Operation Wildfire Coin.
- Blitz Missions: Throughout Operation Wildfire, you’ll have opportunities to take part in Blitz Missions, global events where you can earn bonus XP for performing a specific action. You must be Private Rank 3 or above to participate in Competitive Blitz Missions.
Earlier this year, Valve issued life-bans to Global Offensive players who were caught fixing competitive matches.
