Futurama Mobile Game Coming Next Week, New Trailer Released

In the words of Professor Farnsworth, “Good news, everyone!” Fox Digital Entertainment and developer Wooga today announced that the new Futurama mobile title called Game of Drones will launch on February 25.

The match-4 puzzle game will launch that day for iOS and Android devices as a free download, though you will be able to spend real-world money on microtransactions.

In the game, much like the TV show, you’ll embark on an intergalactic journey with the rest of the Planet Express crew, including Professor Farnsworth, Fry, Bender, and Leela. Your task? To fight a “desperately imbalanced trade war against longtime shipping rival MomCo.”

Game of Drones’ story was written by Dave Grossman (Secret of Monkey Island, The Wolf Among Us), Jonathon Myers (Game of Thrones: Ascent) and Patric M. Verrone. Fans may be particularly happy to learn that Verrone is on board, as he is a member of the original Futurama writing team.

The game promises the show’s trademark “off-beat” humor and quips.

GameSpot recently spoke with the Game of Drone writing team about their narrative goals for the game; we will post our interview in the coming days. For now, you can watch a behind-the-scenes video above or click through the images in the gallery below to get a closer look at Game of Drones.

Other mobile games based on Fox franchises include The Simpsons: Tapped Out from Electronic Arts and TinyCo’s Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff.

It’s not the first Futurama game, as a 3D platformer simply called Futurama was released for Xbox and PlayStation 2 in 2003.
