Adventure on Clover Island Captures that 64-bit Spirit

The moment a game evokes shades of Banjo-Kazooie, Ratchet and Clank, or the original Jak and Daxter, it immediately has my attention. That genre of game where you controlled a furry critter and explored bright, colorful, gigantic worlds in an effort to collect all manner of knick-knacks was among my absolute favorite, which is why I was so heartbroken when it seemed to take a leave of absence over the past half-decade or so.

Thankfully, recent reveals of things like Psychonauts 2, A Hat in Time, and Yooka-Laylee seem to signal a resurgence of this once-beloved genre. Well, we can add another name to that list: Sylar and Plux: Adventure on Clover Island, which is one of the dozens of indie games featured at the Indie Mix 2016, which IGN is hosting inside of our offices. Don’t be turned off by the generic tongue-twister of a title, though — the small slice of Clover Island I got to play was a blast.
