Godzilla 2 has been pushed back nine months to March 22, 2019, Warner Bros. announced. The company also revealed a release date for Godzilla vs. Kong: May 29, 2020.
As Deadline reports, Godzilla 2’s original release date of June 8, 2018 would have put it up against Transformers 6. Director Gareth Edwards’ first Godzilla film made over $500 million at the worldwide box office in 2014. Edwards will return for the sequel.
Godzilla vs. Kong, meanwhile, was announced last year as part of Warner Bros. and Legendary’s cinematic universe of giant monsters. The companies have remained tight-lipped about the project so far; no casting or behind-the-scenes talent has been announced.
