The Conjuring 2 Trounces Warcraft at Box Office

The Conjuring 2 was the clear victor at theaters this weekend, coming in first place at the box office with $40.4 million, making it the largest North American opening for a horror film since its predecessor’s release in 2013.

In addition, New Line and Warner Bros.’ sequel had the all-time biggest debut for a horror movie during the month of June, as noted by THR.

Unfortunately for Legendary, the same can’t be said for its new video game-inspired fantasy film Warcraft, which debuted in second place to an underwhelming $24.4 million, falling far short of its massive $160 million budget.
