Consoles also get the game’s season pass, the Reinforcement Pack. It costs $25 and includes Anarchy’s Children, which adds more soldier customizations; Alien Hunters, which introduces new Ruler aliens; and Shen’s Last Gift, which adds a new soldier class and a mission where Chief Engineer Lily Shen accompanies your squad to find her late father’s secret project. There’s also a Digital Deluxe edition that bundles the game and the Reinforcement Pack for $75.
The game was originally slated to release earlier this month on September 6 before getting delayed to today. Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said the delay was made in order to “ensure the game is fully polished at launch and meets the team’s high standards.”
XCOM 2 received a score of 9/10 in GameSpot’s review. In an update, critic Mike Mahardy said, “Now that XCOM 2 has made its way to consoles, these sentiments remain the same. Some technical issues have migrated from this year’s PC release: characters sometimes freeze in place while the turn progresses; soldiers can take almost 10 seconds to execute commands; and cutscenes have a tendency to drop frame rates throughout campaigns. But the layered tactics, impactful meta-game, and deep character-building are all intact on PS4 and Xbox One. XCOM 2 remains a superb strategy title.”
The PC version of XCOM 2 offered mod support, but the console versions do not. Bethesda has recently had issues with its Fallout 4 mod support on PS4. The company said Sony “will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim: Special Edition.”
