Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games this week publicly stated multiple times that it would like to bring the over-the-top Xbox One action game to PC. The studio said it was Microsoft’s decision to make.
A spokesperson for Microsoft told GameSpot that the company is “proud” of Sunset Overdrive and described Insomniac as a “great partner.” However, it’s too soon to say if the game will come to PC.
“Insomniac Games is a great partner and we love working with them,” the spokesperson said. “We are all proud of Sunset Overdrive and are always looking at ways to bring games to our fans. We have no further news at this time.”
Sunset Overdrive was released in October 2014 for Xbox One. Part of the reason why Insomniac decided to make it an Xbox One-exclusive was because Microsoft reportedly allowed the studio to own the rights to the Sunset Overdrive franchise. By comparison, it doesn’t own some of the brands that it is most closely associated with, including Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance.
Microsoft being the publisher of Sunset Overdrive likely means that it gets to call the shots about where the game is released, while Insomniac could make more games in the series if it wanted to. On that very subject, Insomniac said on Twitter that it would “love” to have a shot to make Sunset Overdrive 2.
As for what Insomniac is working on now, the studio has three Oculus Rift games on the way, including Edge of Nowhere, The Unspoken, and Feral Rites. The independent studio, which has offices in North Carolina and California, is also working on a new Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4.
