As far as launch games for new VR hardware goes, Sony has scored a home run with Batman Arkham VR for its new headset. It is, as reported, as close to putting on Batman’s cowl as it gets without actually being Batman; a disorientating, discombobulating, incredibly immersive experience.
For developer Rocksteady, showing it off is a pleasure. Having called an end to the studio’s Batman long-service after last year’s Arkham Knight, Batman Arkham VR was a spontaneous project that was built under very little pressure. “We started to just toy around with it, and see what VR was all about,” says producer Dax Ginn. “Our initial objective wasn’t to do anything, but as gamers, we were sort of interested.”
