Released yesterday, Sony is already projecting that several hundreds of thousands of its PlayStation VR headset will sell in the coming weeks.
“We know from the data we have from pre-orders that the interest we have is significant,” President and Chief Executive at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Jim Ryan told CNBC, adding that the company expects to sell “many hundreds of thousands” of units at launch.
Sony isn’t alone in thinking this year will be a successful one for PSVR. The market research company SuperData Research estimates the headset will sell more than 2 million units by the end of 2016. According to Sony’s Shawn Layden, it is already selling PSVR at a profit.
