In a new clip from the audio commentary for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, director J.J. Abrams discusses how Ava DuVernay (Selma) helped shape a moment in the film’s climactic fight between Rey and Kylo Ren.
Abram’s describes how he showed “an early cut to
friend Ava DuVernay and she had a bunch of great suggestions. One of them was that she really wanted to see Daisy
in her attack on
Ren…have one really cool moment.”
Abrams later identifies the specific shot: a close-up on Rey with the lightsaber in both hands over her head as she goes in for a final attack. Abrams points out, “
little thing, but it really connects you to her intensity.”
