The Pokemon Trading Card Game just released XY: Evolutions, a set filled with updated reprints from the very first Base Set originally released in the U.S. way back in 1999. That’s right, Charizard, Mewtwo, and the rest are all back with their original card art, now with updated health, attacks, and abilities.
Check out our card comparison viewer below. We’ve selected a few of our favorite cards so you can move the slider back and forth to see how the new cards compare to the classics.
As you can see, the biggest changes are the increases in health and attack damage. The game has experienced a power creep over the years with Pokemon slowly becoming stronger and stronger, so these Base Set cards have been re-balanced so they can compete in the current metagame. It’s crazy to see that Charizard’s Fire Spin now does a whopping 200 damage!
