Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Nerfs Controversial “Fire-Hopping” Technique Apparently

It appears that Nintendo has nerfed the controversial “fire-hopping” technique for Mario Kart 8‘s upcoming Deluxe version for Nintendo Switch.

The video below from GameXplain (via Eurogamer) appears to show that fire-hopping, a technique that lets you extend a power slide boost, is significantly less effective in Deluxe. It may even slow you down, the video explains through a comparison to the Wii U version. This is not 100 percent definitive proof that fire-hopping, or whatever else you might call it, has been nerfed, but the video is compelling.

GameSpot has contacted Nintendo in an attempt to get more details on fire-hopping’s role in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launches on April 28 for Nintendo Switch. A re-release of Mario Kart 8, the game has more characters, carts, and tracks unlocked from the beginning than any other Mario Kart game ever. If you want to download it to your console, it will take up 6.75 GB, apparently.
