Breaking Down the 2018 Summer Box Office Season

The Labor Day holiday weekend represents an extra day off of work or school for most, but in Hollywood, it marks the end of the lucrative summer box office season. The movie industry typically defines the summer movie season as taking place between the first weekend in May (when many colleges across the country let out) and the Labor Day holiday weekend, and this year, Hollywood was looking to rebound from its worst summer since 2006.

If you look at just the raw numbers, without exception, it didn’t… but it’s a lot more complicated than that. So, we’re going to take a deep dive through the numbers and break down what happened this summer at the box office, and why it could lead to some potentially surprising changes.
