With Red Dead Redemption 2‘s release date quickly approaching, Rockstar has shared some new details about its highly anticipated western game. In particular, the developer has provided closer look at weapon customization as well as the Dead Eye system, showcasing both features with a handful of beautiful new screenshots.
The first batch of screens, which you can see below, shows off some of the firearms you’ll be able to wield in Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar says these are more than 50 weapons in the game, each of which can be customized not only in terms of its performance, but also its looks; you’ll be able to upgrade your guns with new types of metal, engravings, and other components like barrels, grips, and sights.
As we recently learned, Red Dead Redemption 2 features weapon degradation, meaning your guns will eventually jam and misfire if you don’t clean and take care of them regularly. Upgrading to a reinforced holster will also help prevent your gun from degrading, while opting for an off-hand holster will give you the ability to dual wield guns.
The second batch of new screenshots provide a better look at the improved Dead Eye system. This allows players to temporarily slow down time, making it easier to target enemies. Rockstar says the system “gradually expands and becomes more sophisticated over the course of the game,” eventually allowing you to fire at multiple targets and even freely shoot in slow motion. You can check out those screenshots below.
Red Dead Redemption 2 launches for PS4 and Xbox One on October 26. The PS4 version will feature a handful of timed-exclusive content, which will debut on Sony’s console 30 days early. The following month, Rockstar will release the game’s online component, Red Dead Online, as a beta. We don’t yet know what to expect from it, but the developer warns that players may experience some teething issues at launch.
